Verifying a guest's Aadhaar does not have to mean photocopying it. A digitally signed code lets the guest's own phone prove the details are genuine, and the hotel receives only a short verified record.
What does the guest do?
- Scans the hotel's QR code with their phone camera.
- Reads and accepts a short privacy notice, in English or Hindi.
- Photographs the QR code on their Aadhaar card, or chooses the e-Aadhaar PDF from their phone. Both sides of an older card may be needed.
- Checks the summary of what will be shared, then presses Share.
What does reception see?
- The guest's verified name and whether they are 18 or older.
- The last four digits of the Aadhaar number, not the full number.
- The photograph from the Aadhaar record, to compare with the guest in front of you.
- A clear result and a reference number for the check-in.
What if verification fails?
- Unsigned or very old QR code: the tool should say so and ask for a manual check with another ID.
- Photo too blurry: ask the guest to try again in better light, or to choose the e-Aadhaar PDF.
- No Aadhaar, or the guest prefers not to use it: check them in with a passport, driving licence or voter ID and note its type and last characters.
Is this the same as the Aadhaar App?
Not exactly. The signed QR code on a card or e-Aadhaar is one route. UIDAI's Aadhaar App, launched on 28 January 2026, lets people share a signed credential after a face check, and it is a separate route that needs the verifying business to be registered as an OVSE. CheckInKYC supports the signed QR today and is enabling the Aadhaar App route.
Whatever route you use, staff still compare the photograph with the person at the desk, and your other duties, such as police and foreigner reporting, stay with the hotel.
